Forgivness

This week we studied Philemon. Philemon is a letter from Paul to Philemon asking him to forgive his slave Onesimus who ran away. Back then slavery was much different from slavery today. A slave back then was well taken care of and educated. A slave could even own his own slave. Skilled male slave were often trusted with the responsibility of running a small business. Slaves where very valuable and losing a slave was a huge loss to the owner. Because it meant that they would not only have to get a new slave but they would need to invest time and energy into training a him. Thus runaway slaves could be severely punished, the head of household even had the legal right to execute a runaway slave. So you see what Paul was asking Philemon to do. He was asking him to lay down his right to execute Onesimus, forgive him and then send him back to help Paul in his ministry. Everyone was expecting Philemon to execute Onesimus. But Paul was asking him to go against this way of thinking and acting and instead release Onesimus into ministry with Paul.
That is a great story, I never thought reading the bible could be so fascinating. Look at the story of Philemon and Onesimus and compare that to what Jesus did for us, it gives us a deeper understanding of the gift he gave us. The gift of forgiveness, and a new life, a life we did not deserve, a life with him. I will leave you and God to think about what this all means to you. But I do want to encourage you to pick up one of these-
and really dig into it.

Youth

Every Saturday the base runs a ministry called youth street. Youth from the community come for a day of fun. They meet in the afternoon and develop skills in music, dance, art, sports, and skate. Then they can hang around all evening and join in on some games, a worship dance party and a time of looking at what the bible says.
Here are a few pictures of some of the guys showing off their gymnastic skills.

Castle Hill

One evening two of my classmates and I hiked part way up Castle hill to watch the sunset.

Studying Acts

Well here I am in Australia, studying the Bible with nine other really amazing people. It has been a busy week, and my brain feels like a scrambled egg.
Did you notice the amount of stuff on our desks? And our confused, but thoughtful looks?  That pretty much sums up the week and why my brain is a scrambled egg.
Do you like my new coloring book?   I do, I think it is pretty awesome.
I also got to make a cool chart like this. Don't worry I got to color it to.
No, I don't spend all my time coloring. I spend some of it here, meeting cool people and enjoying....
this awesome view. I know you're jealous, I can see it in your eyes.
I also spend some time here, talking to you.
Did you enjoy your tour? Did you learn anything? I did. After this week the bible makes a lot more sense, I am starting to see how it all fits together and is one story, not just a bunch of random stuff about God, and how to live. Well that's in the Bible too but it isn't random. Instead it points us to God's love.

I'm Back in the Land Down Under!

And oh is it ever hot and humid here! Jet lag has taken a hold on me so 2:00AM is my rising up time. I am taking the Biblical Core Course on the shores of the Pacific Ocean where the views are great but the dangers in the waters make unpleasant swimming.
Check back for photos and updates as we progress through the Bible in depth together.
I appreciate your prayer support.
My needs are: to stay healthy, keep up with the homework, develop good relationships with my mates, and have fun!
Praise God: that I got here safely, my tuition is all paid for, and there is air conditioning!
Good'ay mates – and God bless you!
